Serious vandalism and burglary incident at Pier Plaza restaurant dominates this week's roundup of crime in our city

Hermosa Beach police responded to 31 recorded incidents during the week of April 26, highlighted by a dramatic commercial burglary arrest on Pier Avenue where officers surrounded all exits and took a suspect into custody, plus multiple residential break-ins and concerning public safety incidents.

Commercial Burglary Ends in Arrest

Early Tuesday morning, officers responded to an active burglary on Pier Avenue when a suspect damaged patio furniture of a business, then used a chair to break the glass door and enter. Once inside, the suspect continued damaging items, breaking glass, smashing multiple bottles of alcohol and wine, and attempted to flee the location. Officers were positioned at all points of entry and took the suspect into custody.

Residential Burglaries

Three residential-area burglaries were reported during the week. Thursday through Sunday, the rear door of a home under construction on the 2100 block of Monterey Boulevard was pried open and an interior room door kicked in.

Wednesday evening on the 100 block of Herondo Street, a window screen above a kitchen sink was cut open and a laptop and charger were stolen from inside the residence.

Monday evening, a locked e-bike was stolen from a bike rack in a parking garage on the 1600 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

Assault & Public Safety Concerns

Friday afternoon brought a disturbing incident on the 100 block of Pier Avenue when an intoxicated subject kicked a dog on a leash without provocation, then swung and struck the victim. The suspect was located and arrested for public intoxication and assault.

Early Sunday morning on Pier Avenue, an intoxicated subject was making sexual comments toward a victim. The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and violation of parole.

Friday evening, subjects were involved in a verbal altercation on the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway when one subject pulled a knife and challenged the victim. The suspect was arrested.

DUI & Weapons Arrests

Two DUI arrests were made during the week. Tuesday night on the 200 block of 10th Street, a subject was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of a baton.

Early Saturday morning at 27th Street and Morningside Drive, a subject was arrested for DUI, court order violation, and resisting arrest.

Tuesday night, a traffic stop at Pier Avenue and Manhattan Avenue for expired registration revealed the driver had a license suspended for DUI, no insurance, and was in possession of brass knuckles. The suspect was arrested.

Vehicle Crimes

Two vehicle tampering incidents were reported. Sunday through Monday, a license plate was stolen from a vehicle on the 400 block of 33rd Street.

Tuesday morning on the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, a subject was tampering with a vehicle when the owner interrupted. The suspect was arrested.

Theft & Shoplifting

Friday night on Pier Avenue, a phone and wallet were stolen from a purse.

Sunday morning, clothing items were stolen from a communal laundry room at an apartment complex on the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

Wednesday afternoon, a subject took items from a business on the 100 block of Pacific Coast Highway and left without paying. The suspect was located and arrested for shoplifting and public intoxication.

Vandalism

Monday afternoon on the 700 block of 11th Street, a subject knocked over a Vespa causing damage. The suspect has been identified.

Thursday, dark chalk crayons were used to draw on a wall at the 800 block of Cypress Avenue.

Fraud & Harassment

A business account on the 700 block of Pier Avenue had unauthorized charges made between April 9-12.

A victim on the 100 block of 30th Street reported receiving unwanted text messages from a former friend.

Traffic Enforcement

One hit-and-run with property damage was reported at Manhattan Avenue and 25th Street on Wednesday evening.

Citations were issued for driving on suspended or revoked license and expired registration.

A citation was issued on Pacific Coast Highway when vehicle registration was expired and a false tab was on the vehicle.

Other Incidents

Luggage was taken from the 500 block of Loma Dr on Wednesday and later returned.

A dog bite was reported on the 500 block of 25th Street.

One public intoxication arrest was made early Sunday morning on Pacific Coast Highway.
