CRIME TIME: September 6-12

Hermosa Beach police responded to 41 reported incidents during the week of September 6-12, marked by violent assaults including one triggered by metal detector use on the beach, multiple heroin and cocaine arrests, a burglary where a suspect falsely claimed to own a residence and hired a locksmith, and continued e-bike thefts from secured locations.

Violent Assaults

September 6 early morning on the 00 block of Pier Avenue, a victim was trying to walk through a crowd at a bar and was struck multiple times by an unknown female subject. September 12 late evening on the 1000 block of The Strand, a victim was using a metal detector on the beach when a suspect became upset, yelled then ran towards the victim, pushing and slapping him in the face, causing the victim to fall. The suspect was arrested.

Burglary & Illegal Entry

September 12 afternoon on the 1600 block of The Strand, a suspect claiming to be the owner of the residence was at the residence with a locksmith who had been hired to help gain entry. The suspect was not the owner of the property, had no right to be there and was arrested for burglary.

Narcotics Arrests

September 7 evening on the 00 block of Pier Avenue, a subject wanted for bike theft was located and arrested. Upon search he was found in possession of paraphernalia. September 5 evening on the 1800 block of Pacific Coast Highway, a subject stated he was going to do cocaine and cocaine was recovered from the bathroom. September 10 morning on the 1800 block of The Strand, a subject was contacted and found to have drug paraphernalia with them. A search located syringes and heroin and the subject was under the influence. The subject was arrested.

DUI Arrests

Three DUI arrests were made during the week. September 11 evening at Artesia Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, a subject was arrested for driving under the influence. September 11 evening at Artesia Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, a second subject was arrested for driving under the influence. September 11 evening at Artesia Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, a citation was issued for driving with license suspended for DUI.

E-Bike & Property Theft

September 5 afternoon on the 00 block of Pier Avenue, an e-bike was stolen from an underground parking garage. September 5 evening on the 400 block of Monterey Boulevard, an e-bike was stolen between September 4-9.

Vandalism

September 4 afternoon on the 400 block of 31st Street, the rear passenger window of a vehicle was smashed yet no evidence of theft was found. September 7 evening on the 1200 block of Hermosa Avenue, a subject punched the glass window of a business with his hand breaking the window. The subject then fled the scene. September 5 morning on the 1300 block of Valley Drive, a window to a house was broken with a rock.

Fireworks Violation & Theft

September 4-5 on the 400 block of Monterey Boulevard, a business owner found firework debris in the company parking lot. Video surveillance showed two subjects setting off fireworks. September 5-7 on the 00 block of Pier Avenue, a wagon was stolen from Fiesta Booth when left unattended overnight.

Quality of Life

September 5 afternoon on the 10th Street and Hermosa Avenue area, a subject was arrested for public intoxication. September 9 afternoon on The Strand and 14th Street, a subject was cited for camping in public. September 11 afternoon on 21st Street and Pacific Coast Highway, a subject was arrested for public intoxication.

Assault by Vehicle

September 10 morning on the 300 block of 27th Street, a vehicle was blocking the roadway and a victim exited their vehicle and approached the driver. The driver quickly turned their vehicle and nearly struck the victim.

Traffic Incidents

September 5 afternoon on 10th Street and Hermosa Avenue, a hit and run with property damage was reported.

ID Theft

A wire transfer from an IRA account was made to an unknown Wells Fargo account without permission.

Suspicious Activity

August 20 afternoon on the 500 block of Pier Avenue, a victim was contacted by a subject who stated they wanted access to the victim's phone number, supposedly once owned by the suspect's family member, connected to their Apple watch. The suspect was attempting to access data via an app.

Retail Crime

September 12 afternoon on the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway, two subjects entered a store, took items and left without paying.

Found Property

September 6 early morning on the 500 block of Pier Avenue, a cell phone was found. September 7 evening on Pier Avenue and Valley Drive, a wallet was found. September 9 afternoon on 27th Street and Hermosa Avenue, a cell phone was found. September 10 early morning on the 1000 block of Valley Drive, a bicycle, backpack and helmet were found. September 10 early morning on the 500 block of Pier Avenue, reading glasses were found. September 12 afternoon on the 500 block of Pier Avenue, two wallets were found. September 12 morning on 14th Street and The Strand, a tent and other items were found.
