CRIME TIME: July 26-August 1

Hermosa Beach police responded to 28 reported incidents during the week of July 26-August 1, marked by a weapons arrest where a loaded handgun was recovered from a vehicle during a traffic stop, two vehicle thefts with associated credit card fraud, and a DUI hit-and-run on Pier Avenue with failure to provide proof of financial responsibility.

Weapons Arrest

Early Sunday morning on the 1000 block of Manhattan Avenue, a traffic stop revealed a driver with 2 passengers inside the vehicle. A loaded stolen handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle along with a ski mask. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.

Stolen Vehicles & Credit Card Fraud

Sunday afternoon on Herondo Street and Monterey Boulevard, a vehicle was stolen from a street parking spot. A wallet was left inside the vehicle and multiple charges to credit cards were made following the theft. A second stolen vehicle was parked on the 2600 block of Valley Drive.

Pier Avenue Thefts

An iPhone was stolen from a purse on Pier Avenue on Sunday morning. A phone was stolen from a back pocket on Pier Avenue on Sunday morning.

DUI Arrests

Two DUI arrests were made during the week. Early Sunday morning on the 700 block of Pier Ave, a subject was arrested for driving under the influence. Sunday evening at Pier Avenue and Ardmore Avenue, a subject was arrested for DUI, hit and run, and failure to prove financial responsibility.

Traffic Enforcement

Multiple citations were issued for driving on suspended or revoked licenses and driving while license suspended for DUI. A citation was issued for driving on suspended/revoked license on Hermosa Avenue and 14th Street on July 18.

Quality of Life

One public intoxication arrest was made on the 2600 block of Valley Drive on Sunday morning.

Traffic Incident

Friday evening on the 700 block of 11th Place, a victim was walking in a parking lot when a vehicle backed up. The victim fell and the vehicle continued to back up, yet did not strike the victim.
