Hermosa Beach police responded to 43 reported incidents during the week of August 16-22, marked by multiple vehicle thefts including e-bikes, a weapons arrest with a no-bail felony warrant, widespread account fraud and identity theft, and a package theft caught on video of someone impersonating an Amazon delivery driver.
Vehicle Thefts
August 16 evening on 30th Street and Hermosa Avenue, a vehicle was stolen. August 18 morning on 27th Street and Hermosa Avenue, a vehicle was stolen from a parking spot on the street. August 18 afternoon on 600 block Hermosa Avenue, a recovered stolen vehicle was located ransacked with the driver door keyhole ignition punched.
E-Bike Thefts
Multiple e-bikes were stolen throughout the week. August 16 afternoon at Longfellow Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, an unlocked e-bike was stolen from the ground level parking lot of a hotel. August 17 afternoon on the 100 block of Pier Avenue, an unlocked blue and black road bike was stolen from a bike rack outside a business. August 16 afternoon on the 1400 block of Hermosa Avenue, an unlocked e-bike was stolen. August 14 afternoon on the 2600 block of Hermosa Avenue, a locked e-bike connected to a parking meter was stolen. August 21 evening on the 700 block of Longfellow Avenue, an unlocked E-bike was stolen from outside a grocery store and later recovered in Torrance by the victim. August 21 morning on the 400 block of Hermosa Avenue, an unlocked foldable e-bike left unattended on a sidewalk was stolen.
Weapons Arrest
August 20 evening on the 2500 block of Valley Drive, subjects contacted in a parked vehicle with open alcohol containers. One person was found to have an outstanding no-bail felony warrant out of San Bernardino Sheriff. Upon a search of the suspect's purse, pepper spray was located.
Account Fraud & Identity Theft
Multiple accounts were compromised during the week. A victim was notified that a Google recovery phone number and email address had been changed without authorization. Costco and Macy's accounts were also accessed and the address changed without permission. August 14 afternoon on the 900 block of Bayview Drive, ID theft was reported. Two fraudulent charges were made to a victim's account without permission on the 2600 block of Hermosa Avenue. A wire transaction was made from a victim's account without permission.
Package & Retail Theft
August 17 evening on the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway, a phone was stolen from a purse as a victim shopped. August 18 early morning on the 900 block of 13th Street, golf clubs left outside a home were stolen. Video showed a suspect delivering a package wearing an Amazon delivery vest, who was then seen loading the golf clubs into his vehicle and leaving the scene.
Trailer & Scooter Theft
August 17 evening on the 200 block of The Strand, a trailer was stolen. A locked electric scooter was stolen after being locked to a street sign. A different cotter was left behind.
DUI Arrests
Three DUI arrests were made during the week. August 16 early morning at Cedar Avenue and Marine Avenue, a subject was arrested for driving under the influence. August 20 early morning on the 100 block of Neptune Avenue, a subject was contacted and stated the vehicle wasn't working. The subject was found to be intoxicated in public and in possession of controlled substance (cocaine) and was arrested. August 22 early morning at Harkness Lane and Ripley Avenue, a traffic stop for driving under the influence resulted in a subject refusing to provide driver's license who was arrested and brought alcohol into the jail.
Quality of Life & Public Intoxication
August 22 early morning on the 00 block of 11th Street, a citation was issued for public urination. August 22 early morning on the 600 block of Pier Avenue, an arrest was made for public intoxication. August 20 early morning at 100 block Neptune Avenue, two subjects were contacted in a parked vehicle with empty alcohol containers outside the vehicle. A passenger was slouched over and woken after multiple attempts. The passenger was cited for open alcohol containers and refused to sign the citation and was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.
Traffic Enforcement
Multiple citations were issued for driving with license suspended for DUI and operating vehicle without interlock device. August 16 afternoon at Longfellow Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, an arrest was made for driving with license suspended for DUI. August 20 morning at Pacific Coast Highway and Gould Avenue, a citation was issued for driving on suspended/revoked license, operating vehicle without interlock device and expired/no registration. August 20 afternoon on the 2800 block of Manhattan Avenue, a citation was issued for driving with license suspended for DUI.
Theft & Retail Crime
August 16 afternoon on 9th Street and Beach Drive, a theft occurred. August 20 afternoon on the 1300 block of Hermosa Avenue, a suspect entered a store, took items and left without paying. The suspect then attempted to steal a bicycle before being contacted by police and arrested.
Traffic Incidents
August 22 early morning on 2nd Street and Hermosa Avenue, a hit and run with property damage was reported.
