City Yard Renovation Project Takes Major Step Forward After Years of Delays
The Hermosa Beach City Council unanimously approved hiring an owner's representative for the long-stalled city yard renovation project
The parking permit issue is a head-scratcher to me.
As with many of these issues, it helps to know how/why the process was established in the first place. Way back in the 80s, the city kept installing more and more parking meters-almost exclusively in the sand section. Predictably, affected residents complained arguing they should be able to park in front of their own homes. The city responded by creating the parking permit program which exempted local residents from paying for the meters. This system worked very well and exactly as intended for over four decades.
A couple years ago, the council decided to change the permit system. This led to hardship for many and those complaints were verbalized loud and clear again at the latest council meeting.
It seems to me this is a very easy fix. Simply go back to the original policy which served us so well for nearly half a century.
