Three significant weapons-related arrests were made during the week, highlighting ongoing enforcement of firearms and narcotics laws.
On January 5, subjects in a parked vehicle in the 00 block of 22nd Street were contacted by officers. The driver admitted to having marijuana and firearms in the vehicle along with knives on his person. Officers located a loaded firearm, multiple packages of marijuana, and an unloaded rifle. The subject was arrested.
On January 7, a subject was contacted by vehicle with false plates at 19th Street and Prospect Avenue. Officers discovered a disassembled handgun inside the vehicle. The subject gave a false name and was found to be restricted from possessing a handgun, had an outstanding warrant, and was in possession of paraphernalia and controlled substances.
Additionally, on January 7, a handgun was taken for safekeeping at 16th Street and Hermosa Avenue following a vandalism incident.
A dramatic DUI incident unfolded on January 4 when multiple calls came in about a reckless driver near North Prospect Avenue and 190th Street. When an officer located the vehicle and the subject began to pull to the curb, the suspect suddenly fled the scene. The suspect ran a red light, striking multiple vehicles before being apprehended. The driver was arrested for DUI while on probation for a previous DUI, evading an officer, driving on a suspended license for DUI, and multiple vehicle violations.
On January 4, an electric bicycle with a lock connecting the wheels was stolen from the 900 block of 1st Street. This marks another in the ongoing series of e-bike thefts that have plagued the city since early December, with thieves continuing to defeat various locking mechanisms.
Multiple narcotics-related arrests were made during the week. On January 4, a traffic stop in the 00 block of 11th Street found the driver in possession of a nitrous oxide tank, continuing a pattern of nitrous oxide violations seen in previous weeks.
On January 5, a subject was contacted passed out in a vehicle in the 700 block of Palm Drive. A search of the vehicle located heroin and cocaine, resulting in an arrest.
On January 6, a traffic stop at 5th Street and Pacific Coast Highway led to the arrest of a driver with a no-bail felony warrant. A search of the vehicle located drug paraphernalia.
On January 6, a suspect entered a store in the 1600 block of Pacific Coast Highway, tried on clothes, and left without purchasing anything. Security and price tags were removed from clothing and found in the dressing room, indicating deliberate theft.
Two hit-and-run incidents with property damage were reported—one on December 13 at Valley Drive and 2nd Street, and another on January 2 at Pacific Coast Highway and 11th Street.
Multiple traffic citations were issued for driving on suspended or revoked licenses, including stops on December 29 at 16th Street and Ardmore Avenue, January 8 on Pier Avenue, and January 10 on Pier Avenue.
On January 8, a subject was arrested for reckless driving at Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street.
Two public urination citations were issued during the week—one on January 7 in the 00 block of 11th Street and another on January 6 on Pier Avenue.
On January 6, a subject was arrested for public intoxication at 3rd Street and Hopkins Street.
A municipal code violation was cited on January 5 at Aviation Boulevard and Prospect Avenue when a subject who had previously been offered resources and advised of the camping ordinance was found camping again.
On January 10, a house in the 1000 block of Valley Drive was found unlocked with the front door open. Officers searched the residence and found nothing suspicious.
On January 3, a neighbor dispute was reported in the 3100 block of The Strand when one neighbor moved another neighbor's Christmas tree from the street back onto their property.
