City Yard Renovation Project Takes Major Step Forward After Years of Delays
The Hermosa Beach City Council unanimously approved hiring an owner's representative for the long-stalled city yard renovation project
An assault occurred on December 10 at 2600 block of Hermosa Avenue when a driver blocking traffic became verbally and physically aggressive after being confronted. The suspect threatened and struck the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Another assault was reported in the 1200 block of Owosso Avenue late on December 7, when a victim stated subjects entered his room and assaulted him.
A single apartment complex in the 400 block of Monterey Boulevard was targeted three times between December 7-8, with thieves stealing four locked e-bikes from a secured parking garage. The incidents occurred over a 12-hour span, suggesting either multiple perpetrators or a coordinated effort. An additional e-bike was stolen from an exterior staircase railing at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway during the early morning hours of December 10.
License plate thefts continued to plague the city, with five separate incidents reported across various neighborhoods. Vehicles in the 100 block of 28th Street, 3300 block of Morningside Drive, 300 block of 34th Street, 400 block of 28th Street, and 1300 block of Manhattan Avenue all had their plates stolen during the reporting period.
Vandalism incidents included two vehicle keying cases (one in the 500 block of 11th Street and another involving a towed vehicle on Hermosa Avenue), a slashed tire on a city vehicle on Pier Avenue, and a broken business window in the Pier Avenue area.
Officers made two DUI arrests during the week—one on Hermosa Avenue in Area 2 on December 7, and another in Redondo Beach jurisdiction on December 7. An additional DUI arrest in Redondo Beach on December 13 involved a driver with prior DUI convictions driving on a DUI-restricted license.
Multiple traffic stops resulted in citations for driving on suspended or revoked licenses, with several cases also involving expired or falsified registration tags. One notable stop on December 7 at Monterey Boulevard and Pier Avenue revealed a vehicle with registration expired since 2022 but displaying a 2024 tag, resulting in citations for falsified registration, expired registration, and failure to notify DMV of address change.
Officers arrested four individuals for public intoxication during the week across various locations on Hermosa Avenue and Manhattan Avenue. Two separate public urination citations were issued in the early morning hours near 11th Street.
Beyond the e-bike thefts, a restaurant in the 100 block of Pier Avenue had its cash register stolen on December 11 when doors were left unlocked between the cleaning crew's departure and employees' arrival. A security camera was stolen from above a garage in the 800 block of Monterey Boulevard, and an earphone was taken from a hostel hotel room on Pier Avenue.

On December 12, officers detained two subjects in Valley Drive Park after observing them inhaling nitrous oxide. When officers attempted contact, the subjects fled on foot but were apprehended. One subject had a no-bail felony warrant, and the second was arrested for possession of nitrous oxide.
A social host ordinance violation was cited on December 12 in the 2600 block of Valley Drive when an adult allowed a group of underage subjects to celebrate a birthday where alcohol was present.
A stolen vehicle reported from Lot A on December 6 was recovered by officers.
